Jayme and Jeremy

Jayme and Jeremy got married in Mexico, May 23, 2009. It was a beautiful wedding, a beautiful day, a beautiful couple and we had a great time.

Jayme and Jeremy left on Tuesday, May 19th, as they had to be in Mexico 4 days prior to their wedding. Jennifer and Randy, Joanna and Billy, Si and I, and Becky (Jeremy's mom) and Jack (Jeremy's stepdad) all flew out together on Wednesday, the 20th. A few minor glitches at the airport started the day off kind of crappy, but once we got to Mexico it was all forgotten.

The resort was pretty empty; lots of people cancelled due to the swine flu pandemic. It made it nice for us because there were no big crowds in the swimming pools and we didn't have to worry about being sat for meals. One minor problem--only 1 restaurant was open for breakfast and generally 2 open for lunch and dinner. We managed to eat at a different place every meal except breakfast, so it wasn't such a big deal.

We spent most evenings in the Mohito Bar as that was the only "live" entertainment every night. At the bar on Wednesday night, Jayme and Jeremy introduced us to a couple getting married that Friday. Jayme and Jeremy knew them from Denton. Small world!

Thursday, Ashley and Jay, Micah and Alyssa (friends), and Jason (Jeremy's brother) and his wife, Alissa and their two boys came in. Jayme and Jeremy had to do their blood tests and meet with the wedding coordinator, so Becky and I went with them to "hold their hands" during the blood test. I don't think it bothered Jayme as much as it did Jeremy. Afterwards, we all met in the lobby to welcome the Thursday arrivees.

Jennifer and Randy and Billy and Joanna all had 1st floor swim up rooms, so everyone always met at their rooms to hang out, either in the pool, the jacuzzi, or on their patio. And since everything was included, meals and drinks, we ordered room service on the patio almost every afternoon and we had a "pool butler" who took drink orders for us and brought them over to us. Pretty cool!

Friday, the guys went deep-sea fishing and the girls + Si, went to Playa del Carmen.  Jeremy fought to land a Blue Marlin and all the other guys caught some tuna.  They brought the tuna back with them and then made arrangements to have it cooked for our dinner at one of the restaurants.  The Playa group took a stretch limo into town and walked around, shopping.  We went by Big Al and Redneck Steve's Beer Bucket, but it was closed, so we took a few pictures and headed on down the main street to finally end up at Senor Frogs.  We all sat at the bar and ordered a drink.  The wait staff found out Jayme was getting married (this was our "mock" bachelorette party)  and they hung her upside down from the ceiling to take a shot.  It was pretty funny and she was a good sport to do it.  We got picked up by the limo driver about 2:30 and it was obvious on the ride home how tired everyone was.  I think the heat took everything out of everyone!

About 6 PM Friday night, as we were getting ready for dinner, we watched Jayme and Jeremy's friends get married in the gazebo from our balcony.  They had to delay the ceremony for about 30 minutes because it started raining pretty hard.  The policy is that normally if it rains, they move the ceremony into one of the breezeways of the buildings.  I know that Jayme was a little concerned that her wedding might get delayed, so let it be known that I did a lot of praying for her.

Saturday, we woke up to another beautiful day.  We started getting ready for the wedding about 2:00.  The wedding was scheduled for 5:00, but as we were in Jayme's room finishing up getting her ready we could see the storm clouds moving in.   The wedding coordinator came in about 4:30 and started to say, "We're going to move......" (the whole sentence was, "We're going to move the wedding up a little" (to avoid the storm), but all Jayme heard was, "We're going to move the wedding......" and her face fell and you could tell she was going to be very disappointed if we had to move into the breezeway.  After all, she was paying to get married on the beach, not in a hallway.  But, everyone was ready, the guys were already on the beach, all the guests were there too, so the wedding coordinator said we should just go ahead and start the ceremony.   So, I left Si and Jayme with her sisters, and headed down to the beach.  The music began and the bridesmaids started down the ramp.   And then, the big moment.....Jayme walking down with her Dad.  I watched Jeremy and I could see him tearing up a little.  It was a great moment.  Jayme was just beautiful.   And the colors she chose for the outfits the girls and guys wore were perfect.  And, the ceremony ended just in time.  The "judge" pronounced them man and wife, they kissed and then they did the recessional to Dirty Dancing's, "I Had the Time of My Life."  We took a bunch of pictures and then it started sprinkling.  We walked up to one of the other gazebos to wait out the rain, so Jayme and Jeremy could get some more pictures on the beach.  The rain stopped pretty quickly so the photographer took Jayme and Jeremy back to the beach for more pictures.  We had a good time waiting at the gazebo for them to come back.  We got a lot of fun pictures of everyone else.  However, by the time Jayme and Jeremy got back, Jayme was about ready to pass out, she was so hot.  So, we went into the lobby and got her some water and some cool wet towels to cool her off.

We were supposed to have the "reception dinner" on the "patio" of the restaurant, but because of the rain they had moved it inside.   Although, I'm sure it would have been nice outside, it was very nice inside too.  And the photographer got pictures of Jayme and Jeremy cutting their cake, toasting each other, and everyone that was there with them.  After dinner, we went to the "Kids Club." There was no one in the club, so we took it over and had our own wedding celebration.  Billy apparently paid one of the bartenders to get a couple of bottles of liquor, so everyone was drinking and dancing and just partying.  I think everyone had a really great time.  I know I did.

We got up the next morning to have breakfast before we left to come home.  Jayme and Jeremy got a chance to visit one last time with everyone who was leaving that day.  Then we headed to the airport for our trip back to DFW.

Really hated to leave and come back to the real world.  We all got kind of used to having people wait on us and bring us whatever we asked for.  But the wedding was beautiful, the vacation was fun because the family was together and Jayme and Jeremy had a great start to their married life!
